ABOUT US

The ‘Cash Friendly Town’ (CFT) movement centres around a core principle – the preservation of financial independence.

When the last bank in Llandeilo, Carmarthenshire closed its doors, taking the cash machine with it, the local businesses and residents of this small market town realised they were facing new challenges conducting day to day transactions. The removal of the main cash machine combined with the UK Government currently exploring the potential for introducing a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC, or digital pound) has led the town to look for options in the face of cashless trends.

The CFT movement was borne out of the realisation that the lack of access to cash services threatens to exclude those who rely on cash as their primary means of payment. The Cash Friendly Town aims to reclaim the right to choose how businesses and individuals conduct their transactions – advocating for inclusive financial systems that cater for the diverse needs of this community.

Llandeilo is a town known for its small independent shops, and these businesses have now taken collective action to stand for the right to choose how we manage our finances, in order to remain a thriving community. The objective of the CFT campaign is the installation of new cash point services in our town and to provide support for local businesses, many of which are also choosing to offer discounts to those who wish to pay for their purchases with cash. .

Progress should not come at the expense of individual freedoms.
